"We fly to thy patronage, Virgin Mother of God. Do not despise our petitions in our necessities; but deliver us from all dangers, O Pure and Most Blessed One."

 Introduction

Bishops Constantine Bohachevsky and Ambrose Senyshyn founded the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of Mother of God in 1944, at Stamford, Connecticut. The aim of the Congregation is to promote the greater glory of God and the sanctification of its own members through the observance of the holy vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. The Sisters dedicate their lives to the propagation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the holy Catholic Faith, with an emphasis on the Byzantine Ukrainian Rite.

Apostolic Life

They teach at the elementary school level, take care of God’s little ones in nursery schools, prepare children to receive the Sacraments, and instruct parish youth in Christian Catholic principles and truths.

The Community strives to foster knowledge and appreciation of the Eastern Rite through the publication and dissemination of Liturgical books, music, art, and literature.  Presently, they are engaged in the establishment and management of Treasury of Faith Archeparchial Museum in Philadelphia.

Though small in number, the Sisters seek to be of assistance to the Church; they perform domestic services for the hierarchy, bake altar breads, sew church vestments, and work as sacristans.

 Spitirual Life

The Missionary Sisters of Mother of God are an active community with a contemplative dimension. The maxim: “Ora et Labora” [Pray and Work] accurately describes their daily life. The Sisters gather together for communal prayer several times throughout the day. Each day begins with meditation, chanting of Matins and First Hour, participation at the Divine Liturgy and recitation of the holy rosary.  At midday they have examination of conscience and a visit to the Most Blessed Sacrament.  Their day concludes in the Chapel with the singing of Vespers, points for meditation and evening prayer. The Sisters also devote time each day to personal prayer, spiritual reading, study and recreation.

 Spiritual Life

A young woman aspiring to the religious life as a Missionary Sister of Mother of God should highly esteem prayer and hard work. She should display a willingness to live a life of generosity, sacrifice, and loyalty to the true teachings of the Catholic Church.
