"Generation of Faith for Byzantine Churches" Program
To preach the word of God was, is and will be the purpose and task of Christ's Church. However, a constant challenge has been to find ways as to how make the message of the Gospel appealing, interesting and most of all, beneficial for the salvation of a believer. Throughout the history different approaches were implemented in teaching the Gospel while considering the time and circumstances the Church is in. Recently, various programs of religious education for adults and children have been developed, which are meant to explain the Gospel, worship, tradition and teachings of the Church.
"Generations of Faith" is a religious education program for children and adults created by the religious education experts under the guidance of the Eastern Catholic hierarchs in the United States. The program consists of five parts, which incorporate the Scripture, topics in theology, worship and spirituality of the Byzantine tradition.
Currently, this program is being implemented in all the parishes of the Philadelphia Archeparchy. On February 6-7, 2009, Sr. Ann Laszok, OSBM, a religious education director in the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Parma and one of the main contributors in development of the program, held a workshop for volunteers, catechists and clergy, during which she explained the program and ways to implement it in parishes. And this is only the beginning...
The Office of Religious Education is working to introduce "Generations of Faith" in every parish. Given that not every parish has children in a catechetical school, efforts should be made on catechizing and evangelizing adults in order to deepen the understanding of their faith. Materials of the program have been already distributed to the clergy and parish directors, of religious education.
