Join us on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 from 7:00 – 8:00 PM for discussion of ancient forms of Marian devotion in Christianity and Islam. What did veneration of Mary look like in the ancient Church? ZOOM Talk on the “Nones”

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10
7:00 – 8:00 PM

FEE: FREE

What does Catholicism have to say to the “Nones”?

More and more Americans have left organized religion altogether. If given a form with boxes to check for religious affiliation they would mark “NONE.” Historically speaking, the United States has been one of the most religious countries in the modern world. In fact, it was largely settled by religious dissidents freeing persecution in Europe (Puritans, Quakers, Mennonites, etc.). What has happened such that people no longer find value in religion? Who are the “Nones”? What does Catholicism have to say to them?

ZOOM Talk on Eastern Catholicism

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17
7:00 – 8:00 PM

FEE: FREE

What is Eastern Catholicism?

Few Roman Catholics are aware that the Roman Church is not the only one in Catholicism. In fact, there are more than twenty Eastern Catholic Churches in full communion with Rome, including the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. One way to describe them would be ‘same pope, different bishops.’ The Eastern Churches contain and express the fullness of Catholicism but do so in different ways than we typically find in the Latin West (e.g., icons, non-Roman liturgical traditions, some unfamiliar saints). Additionally, the shared heritage between Eastern Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy often blurs easy distinctions. What are the Eastern Catholic Churches? Where do they come from?
